Dr Luca Ferasin

DVM PhD CertVC Dip ECVIM-CA (Cardiology) MRCVS

Luca graduated with honours in 1992 from the University of Bologna (Italy). After a one-year internship at the Department of Animal Science of the University of Padova (Italy), he carried out a 3-year research project in endocrinology at the BBSRC in Cambridge and was awarded his PhD in 1996. Following 3 years as Assistant Professor at the University of Padova, he moved to the University of Bristol, where he taught cardio-respiratory medicine of the dog and cat for 7 years. In 2006 Luca was appointed Associate Professor in Veterinary Cardiology at the University of Minnesota (USA) and he moved back to the UK in 2008.

During his career, Luca has received several awards and academic recognitions, both for his teaching and research activities. He has contributed to the veterinary literature with more than seventy articles, research communications and book chapters. Luca has been invited to speak at several national and international meetings, seminars and continuing education programs for the veterinary and veterinary nursing profession.

His main interests include, but are by no means limited to, diagnosis and treatment of feline cardiac disease, interventional cardiology, as well as clinical investigation of syncope, collapse and exercise intolerance.

Luca is one of very few European and RCVS Recognised Specialists in Veterinary Cardiology. He is a member of the ECVIM and RCVS board of examiners and Officer of the European Society of Veterinary Cardiology (ESVC).

               

 

 

Luca is married to Heidi (who also is a vet!) and he is the proud owner of a lovely Italian cat called Wendy, who has travelled with him all around the world!
